“If, as a designer, you can imagine something, then you have a strong chance of actually making it happen at some point in time. This is why we have tried to design a scenario for the future with which people can readily identify.” These are the words used by Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design, in describing the route to the vision vehicle BMW VISION NEXT 100.

 

A decisive part of the creation process was that drivers should not enter an anonymous means of transport but instead something very personal directed entirely to their needs. After all, the aim for the future too should be to establish an extremely emotional link between a BMW and its driver.

What will also persist in the future is that cars should have an emotional design and offer very emotional driving experiences.

The starting point for the design process was the interior. In future, the drivers’ well-being will become more and more important. They should have the feeling of sitting in a machine conceived for them personally. This will result in an architecture in which the cabin dimensions appear particularly generous in comparison with the overall size of the vehicle.

 

At the same time, the BMW VISION NEXT 100 is clearly recognisable as a BMW through its contours. Despite its dome-shaped interior, it has the same sporty and BMW-typical silhouette of a BMW saloon.

 

In producing the BMW VISION NEXT, the designers gave preference to the use of recycled materials or renewable resources. All visible and invisible carbon parts – as for example in the side panels – consist of residual material from the normal carbon production process.
 

In selecting the “THE NEXT 100 YEARS” as a guiding theme, BMW consciously allowed a contradiction: no scientist, politician or economic strategist is able to predict the next 100 years. However, there are serious forecasts that extrapolate a wide range of factors and figures into the future. After extensive research, BMW used these forecasts to draw up a view of tomorrow’s world – the foundation stone for BMW VISION NEXT 100.
